We urgently need your help over July and August
We are asking people across Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge to donate non-perishable food items during the forthcoming school summer holidays, a time when children will miss their free school meals and many families struggle to put food on the table.
Last year we saw a staggering 57% increase in the number of children receiving a three-day emergency foodbags during July and August in Tunbridge Wells, compared with the previous two months.
“In term-time, many children benefit enormously from the support schools provide through their breakfast clubs, in addition to free school meals,” explains Nourish co-chair Paul Haines. “However, many families struggle with the increased financial cost of feeding children during the summer holidays. At Nourish, not only have we seen a rise in referrals at this time, but this also coincides with a dip in donations due to so many people being away on holiday.”
In-date, non-perishable food and toiletries can be deposited at donation stations in all the supermarkets in Tunbridge Wells and at Sainsbury’s and Lloyds Bank in Tonbridge. You can also drop donations at YMCA Warehouse and directly to Big Yellow Self Storage. (See our give food page for more details) Please see our most wanted list for items we need most.
If you would like to hold a collection at your workplace/school/social group then please get in touch and we can provide you with collection boxes. You can download a printable PDF of our Holiday Hunger poster here
Vital support can also be given by donating much needed funds where £3 a month will cover the costs of providing a meal for one child in crisis in our local community, £10 can provide a fresh food voucher and £27 can provide a 3-day foodbag.
