Duke Of Edinburgh Volunteers @ Nourish
January 16th saw the first shift of D of E volunteers join the Nourish team.
Currently three boys from Skinners School and a year 10 student from Bennett Memorial volunteer every third Saturday with an additional year 7 Bennett student.
The team got straight down to work on their first shift tackling over 30 crates of food and managing to give all three units a spring clean and organised several parcels ready to go out on the following Monday.
We are very excited to be able to offer placement and opportunities for younger volunteers, the renewed enthusiasm and perspective they give to the organisation is invaluable in our planning future recruitment and for our school presentations. Heather, our year 10 Bennett student said
" I really wanted to choose Nourish for my volunteering placement as I cant imagine how horrible to have to worry that you have no dinner tonight" Melissa our year 7 student says "My Mum works for Nourish and I like that I can be a proper volunteer too" both girls led the way in organising the shelves and would not leave until they finished their target of the huge stacks of crates needing to be unpacked.
Dawn Stanford, who leads the shifts said "its lovely to see such passion from the younger volunteers, they worked very well together as a team despite not meeting before this morning and seemed to have lots of fun while helping to unpack lots of food and do plenty of prep for the upcoming week"
Our next shift is 6th Feb and we have space if you know of someone that has a few hours to spare and would like to get involved.
